Any small-town muddles through the inevitable transitions that the passage of time brings. Tempers can flare, heartfelt ideas are buffeted about in town meetings. Comments are misunderstood, and second-hand information is more distorted with each telling. Add to the mix the different goals and personalities of the officials and the volunteers that are required for even minimal government, and the muddle becomes a major mess! Gently stirring this stew, ever watchful for wrong-doing, is the local press, our faithful guardian. But, notice how little it takes to change Guard to Greed.
